Use case
How to set one spending cap across OpenAI and Anthropic together
OpenAI's own spend limits see only OpenAI. A shared cap has to live somewhere both providers' traffic passes through.
Route both providers' supported traffic through Spendline and set one budget at the org or team scope. Spendline totals spend from every routed provider against that budget and checks it before forwarding each supported request.
How it works
A budget is tied to a scope (org, team, agent or customer), not a provider. A team that has spent $3,000 on OpenAI and $2,000 on Anthropic is at $5,000 against one $6,000 team budget. Supported routes are chat completions for OpenAI-compatible providers, Anthropic Messages and non-streaming OpenAI Responses.

OpenAI $3,000
Anthropic $2,000
Total $5,000 of $6,000What to know before relying on it
The cap covers only traffic routed through Spendline. Calls sent directly to a provider, including any direct-provider fallback, and unsupported API shapes are outside it. Keep each provider's native limits as a separate safety net.
Why it matters
Provider-native limits only see their own provider. A team on two providers has two unrelated caps and no shared view of total spend.
Frequently asked questions
Does this replace each provider's own limits?
No. Native limits are another control and still protect traffic that does not pass through Spendline. Keeping both is sensible.
Can the shared total still be broken down by provider?
Yes. The ledger records the provider and model of each call, so the combined figure can be split out for reporting.

Start with a guided 30-day free pilot on live production traffic. The 30 days start when your traffic flows through Spendline, not at sign-up. We agree the scope, success criteria and paid terms before you start. There is no Spendline subscription fee during the pilot; your model-provider charges still apply.
