Use case
How to see margin after AI cost, per customer
Customer revenue minus attributed AI cost, over the same period, where you share revenue data. Other delivery costs are not included.
Attribute routed calls with x-customer-id so AI cost accumulates per customer, then supply each customer's monthly revenue under the same customer ID. Where you share revenue data, Spendline shows revenue minus attributed AI cost for the same period.
How it works
The cost side is the same mechanism as tracking cost per customer: a header per request, written to an append-only ledger. The revenue side is entered by hand or imported as a CSV, one monthly USD figure per customer; Spendline does not read it from your billing system. The customer IDs in your revenue data must match the IDs your application sends, and Spendline compares revenue and cost over the same window.
Customer ExampleCo
Revenue supplied $1,000
AI cost recorded $800
Revenue less AI $200
Margin after AI 20%What to know before relying on it
This is AI cost only. Hosting, support, payment fees and other delivery costs are not included, so it is not full customer profitability. The figure is only as current as the revenue you last supplied, and traffic that was not routed or not labelled is missing from the cost side.
Why it matters
Customers on the same plan can cost very different amounts to serve. A revenue-only view cannot show which accounts use most of their price in AI cost; attributing cost at the same granularity as revenue can.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to share revenue data?
No. Customer-cost tracking and budgets work without it. Where you share revenue data, Spendline compares revenue with attributed AI cost over the same period.
How current is the margin figure?
The cost side updates as routed calls are recorded. The revenue side is whatever monthly figure you last entered or imported, so a stale revenue figure gives a stale margin.
